Chetumal, Quintana Roo. – The government of Quintana Roo intensified its dengue prevention actions in 2025, implementing a comprehensive public health strategy to reduce risks to the population under the leadership of Governor Mara Lezama.

Campaigns for waste removal and control of the dengue-transmitting mosquito, Aedes aegypti, were reinforced throughout the state. Health Secretary Flavio Carlos Rosado emphasized that these initiatives are part of the New Agreement for Well-being and Development, which prioritizes prevention to improve the quality of life for Quintana Roo residents.

Through epidemiological week 49, more than 1,300 tons of waste were collected, preventing them from serving as potential mosquito breeding sites. Additionally, nearly half a million larval control visits were conducted in homes, and more than 185,000 hectares were fogged to combat adult insects.

Health surveillance included the blocking of over 2,000 probable cases, certification of hundreds of houses and buildings as free of breeding sites, and analysis of thousands of ovitraps for early mosquito detection. These measures aim to eliminate the larval phase, the most vulnerable stage, and prevent diseases such as dengue, Zika, and chikungunya.

Health authorities reiterated to citizens the importance of maintaining basic preventive measures, such as covering water containers, eliminating unused containers, keeping patios and rooftops clean, and participating in community sanitation campaigns.
