Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A judicial authority in Quintana Roo has handed down a sentence of 37 years and six months in prison to Luis Gustavo Jiménez Juárez, found responsible for the qualified homicide of F.M., the manager of the Mamita’s Beach club in Playa del Carmen. The sentence was issued following an oral trial hearing, which proved the direct involvement of the accused in the events that occurred in January 2022.
This judicial ruling reaffirms the justice system’s commitment to addressing high-impact crimes and ensuring reparations for victims. In addition to the prison sentence, the convicted individual must pay a fine exceeding 216,000 pesos and more than 864,000 pesos in compensation for material damages caused by the homicide.
The crime took place on January 25, 2022, when a group of armed men entered the beach club on Calle 28 with the maritime federal zone. After requesting the presence of F.M., one of the aggressors entered accompanied by two other individuals and took him to the establishment’s restrooms, where he was shot and killed. The investigation revealed that the motivation was retaliation for the manager’s participation in a police operation at the location.
After committing the crime, the perpetrators fled the scene; Jiménez Juárez managed to escape with the help of an accomplice aboard a jet ski. The judicial authority determined that the motive for the attack was linked to a conflict over control of illicit activities within the beach club.
This case exemplifies the struggle of institutions in Quintana Roo against insecurity and crimes linked to organized crime. The sentence not only seeks justice for the victim but also sends a strong message to those who commit violent acts in the region that justice acts firmly and without exception.
