Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo — The government of Quintana Roo has officially denied rumors regarding the demolition of Technical Secondary School No. 7 “Primero de Junio” in Puerto Morelos. The administration of Blanca Merari addressed the speculation, clarifying that no such plans exist to dismantle the educational institution.
Authorities Dismiss Demolition Claims
The Secretary of Education of Quintana Roo (SEQ) confirmed that neither demolition nor closure of the school is under consideration. In a public statement, the SEQ urged the community to rely on official sources for accurate information, stating, “We invite the community to always consult information through official channels.”
Origins of the False Rumor
The unfounded claim that the school would be demolished originated from an online hoax alleging that the waterfront property would be replaced by a hotel. The false report suggested that declining enrollment since 2016 had led to the closure of multiple classes, with the intention of relocating students to other schools and repurposing the land for commercial use.
A circulated message falsely asserted, “The State and Municipal Governments have intentionally neglected the school to accelerate deterioration and justify demolishing the classroom buildings, which have withstood years of challenges.”
Government Plans for School Maintenance
Contrary to the rumors, local authorities announced plans to rehabilitate the school using public funds. The government of Quintana Roo, through the SEQ, emphasized its commitment to improving the facility’s infrastructure. “Once this planning is finalized, it will be officially announced,” the municipality of Puerto Morelos stated on its social media platforms.
The school last underwent significant renovations in 2016. Officials indicated that further details regarding upcoming maintenance efforts will be disclosed in the coming weeks.
