Puerto Morelos, Mexico — Authorities in Puerto Morelos have established two modules where residents can change, renew, or report the loss of their voter ID cards before they are canceled. The initiative aims to facilitate the renewal process for documents that have reached their 10-year validity period.
Voter ID cards are valid for 10 years. After this period, they lose their utility as identity documents and become unusable identification. Therefore, individuals must renew them once their useful time expires.
Old plastic cards will be destroyed by the National Electoral Institute, rendering them unusable for any procedures. Failure to renew this document also prevents people from voting in any election or participating in plebiscites or public consultations.
