Playa del Carmen, Mexico — A property allegedly used as a safe house was secured by agents of the Secretariat of Public Security in the Luis Donaldo Colosio neighborhood. The operation resulted in the detention of three men and the rescue of five minors and one woman, who were found being held at the location.
The police action began when municipal officers pursued several individuals who attempted to hide inside a building located on 70th Street and 15th Avenue. Following the initial detention of the suspects, officers inspected the site, discovering that the allegedly abandoned property was in fact a safe house with a reinforced entrance on its interior.
Following the procedures established by the New Accusatory Penal System, the formal securing of the residence was carried out. Inside, authorities found and arrested the three adult men. Additionally, five minors of both sexes and a young woman were located.
The Specialized Group for Attention to Family and Gender-Based Violence (Geavig) assumed the custody and care of the woman and the minors.
During the inspection, firearms and various quantities of narcotics were also seized.
Residents of the area indicated to the authorities that this property has been the subject of seizure on several previous occasions. The neighbors expressed concern because, despite the owner's known links to organized crime, the legal process of asset forfeiture has not been applied to the property.
Finally, the ministerial authorities have begun the pertinent investigations to clarify the facts, determine the degree of responsibility of the detainees, and define their legal status.
