Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — The Municipal Government of Playa del Carmen, led by Mayor Estefanía Mercado, through the Secretariat of Social Justice and the Directorate of Education, Human Development and Public Libraries, organized an enriching educational visit to the Xel-Há park for students from the María Montessori Primary School.
The group was composed of 57 children, as well as 4 accompanying teachers. During the tour, the students had the opportunity to learn about the caleta, a natural inlet of the sea into the land, and about the limestone rock characteristic of the region. They also learned the meaning of the name "Xel-Há," which in the Mayan language translates to "shore of the water."
The Director of Education, Human Development and Public Libraries, Feliciano Teh Cen, highlighted the importance of promoting activities that strengthen learning outside the classroom and foster respect for the environment. "These experiences allow children to understand the value of our ecosystems and develop a sense of belonging towards the natural wealth of Quintana Roo," he stated.
Furthermore, the students explored the relevance of mangroves in conserving ecological balance and their fundamental role in protecting the state's biodiversity. With these actions, the Playa del Carmen Municipal Government reaffirms its commitment to comprehensive education and the environmental formation of new generations.
