Playa del Carmen Child Abduction Case Stalled by Corruption

Playa del Carmen, Mexico — One year after the initiation of investigation file 8176/2024, the complainant in a complex case involving violence, child abduction, and attempted homicide in Playa del Carmen asserts that his judicial process remains paralyzed due to alleged influence peddling and collusion between the State Attorney General's Office (FGE) and the aggressor, attorney Kevin Ramón S. Q.

The case became public in January of this year, uncovering serious accusations of corruption. It is now revealed that, despite the evidence, justice has not advanced and the aggressor, who is also the ex-partner of the complainant's former wife, has not been indicted.

The central point of the stagnation is the assault that occurred on October 21, 2024, in a restaurant. According to the complainant, the evidence from the FGE demonstrates the severity of the attack. The affected party reported that the witness statements contained in the investigation file are consistent and indicate that the attack included strangulation with a belt.

Forensic experts from the Attorney General's Office concluded that the events constitute attempted homicide. Despite the compelling nature of the testimonies and the expert opinion, the complainant maintains that the aggressor is using financial resources to manipulate the process and avoid being indicted. The crucial hearing in this case has been scheduled for November 10.

The complainant reiterates that attorney S. Q. and the defendants openly boast of having protection and support from major business spheres, including the Palace Group (Chapur). This presumption of impunity is what, according to the victim, has allowed the complaints against him to proceed quickly, while the ones he has filed have remained "stalled" for months.

The affected party has stated that, given the lack of response from the local Attorney General's Office and the evident conflict of interest, he has sent emails to federal instances such as the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) and the corruption department of the FGE, without obtaining a solution to unblock the case.

To date, and despite the gravity of the accusations and the time that has passed, the Attorney General's Office of the State of Quintana Roo has not issued any official position nor has it denied the accusations of corruption and influence peddling that are paralyzing the administration of justice in this case.
