Cancún, Quintana Roo — Authorities have dismantled a national crime ring in Cancún that targeted luxury homes through rental platforms, leading to the arrest of six suspects who have been transferred to Chiapas to face charges.
The arrests occurred during three separate operations in Cancún’s superblocks 38, 41, and 43, following a collaboration request from the Chiapas State Prosecutor’s Office, which had ongoing investigations into violent robberies.
The suspects were identified as Marco Antonio “N,” 46, and Daniel “N,” 41, both from Mexico City; José Antonio “N,” 23, from Guerrero; and Kenny Yoonathan “N,” 42, María Isabel “N,” 38, and Juan Camilo “N,” 27, all Colombian nationals.
Investigations revealed that Kenny Yoonathan “N” served as the leader of what authorities described as a high-risk organization, recruiting both Mexican and Colombian members. José Antonio “N” managed the rental of vehicles used in the crimes.
The group operated by renting homes in exclusive residential areas through digital platforms like Airbnb, allowing them access to gated communities where they could study residents’ movements and select high-value targets. They would then place fake license plates, obtained in Mexico City, on their vehicles and enter homes armed, regardless of whether people were inside.
The arrest warrants stemmed from robberies at the Club Campestre subdivision in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas, where the group stole over six million pesos in two separate incidents, along with high-value items. In both cases, victims were physically assaulted.
Authorities also determined the criminal organization had operations in multiple states including Baja California, Tamaulipas, and Jalisco, with collaborators in Mexico City responsible for locating and renting properties used to plan robberies.
During the Cancún operations, authorities seized weapons, vehicles, and license plates. The interagency intervention prevented the group from establishing a foothold in Quintana Roo, where they were already conducting reconnaissance for new robberies in local subdivisions.
After executing the arrest warrants, the five men and one woman were handed over to Chiapas ministerial agents, who transported them to that state to appear before a judge and continue the corresponding criminal proceedings.
