Mass Grave Found on Ranch in Quintana Roo

Leona Vicario, Mexico — Human remains belonging to multiple individuals were located in Leona Vicario, within the municipality of Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo. The remains were found in several burial pits that were apparently used by organized crime groups.

According to reports, personnel from the Quintana Roo State Attorney General's Office (FGE) located at least seven bodies buried at the ranch known as Sac-Lol, located in the rural area of Leona Vicario. The site is allegedly used by criminal groups to conceal victims of forced disappearance and carry out their crimes.

The discovery was made during a joint operation led by the Special Prosecutor's Office for Forced Disappearance and Disappearance Committed by Private Individuals, with support from the National Guard, the National Defense Secretariat, and the Puerto Morelos Municipal Police. All these instances secured the perimeter after discovering alleged irregularities on the property.

For their part, state authorities assured that the priority is to identify the victims and detain those responsible, while also strengthening search operations in rural areas linked to organized crime in the region.

Discoveries of Human Remains in Quintana Roo

It has unfortunately become common for human remains of missing persons to be located in Quintana Roo. It was recently reported that a body was found in Cancún, where this type of case has sadly become a constant.

Those human remains were located in black bags in Region 244, in the El Jordán neighborhood. According to reports, it was on the morning of last Wednesday, October 29 of the current year when residents of the aforementioned area reported finding a lifeless body, after which the emergency number 911 was called.

Following the call, elements of the Municipal Police arrived in this part of Cancún and proceeded to cordon off the area. Later, elements of the Quintana Roo State Attorney General's Office arrived and began the investigation.

Forensic experts from the Medical Examiner's Service later arrived at the location and were responsible for the recovery and transfer of the remains to the morgue for analysis and identification. The cause of death is also being investigated. It could be a homicide.

It is currently unknown whether the human remains belong to a man or a woman, or even if it is a person with a missing person report from Cancún.
