The December holidays of 2025 could generate economic benefits of up to 608 billion pesos in Mexico, estimated the Confederation of National Chambers of Commerce, Services and Tourism (CONCANACO Servytur) this Wednesday.
This expected economic spillover would represent growth of 8.4% compared to 2024, driven by domestic tourism consumption and spending associated with celebrations such as posadas, Christmas Eve, Christmas, and New Year’s.
The business organization, which represents more than 5 million companies and family businesses, stated in a communiqué that from December 16 to January 1, the highest sales activity of the season is concentrated.
According to CONCANACO Servytur, the expected benefits will reach 4.8 million economic units in the commerce, services, and tourism sector, during a period that typically increases demand for transportation, lodging, restaurants, and other businesses related to travel and family gatherings.
In a context of economic slowdown, where inflation is rising and household consumption is adjusting, the Confederation urged that public debate start from a premise: celebrate, but “watching your wallet.”
The report cited figures from the National Commission for the Protection and Defense of Financial Services Users (CONDUSEF), which indicate that a family can spend between 11,000 and 19,000 pesos during the season, considering Christmas and New Year’s dinners, as well as gifts.
“This season is key for millions of businesses and also for millions of households. The goal is not to ask people to spend more, but to spend better: with planning, safe purchases, and at established businesses, so that the economic spillover stays in communities and translates into employment,” said the president of CONCANACO Servytur, Octavio de la Torre.
The Confederation detailed that the activity would reach sectors such as lodging—including app-based services—department stores, travel agencies, transportation, restaurants, food and beverages, public markets, electronics, clothing, footwear, and toys.
Regarding consumption habits, the business organization cited a study by the global firm Kantar, which estimates for December 2025 that 52% of families will celebrate Christmas at home and 45% New Year’s at home, while 37% will do so at the homes of friends or relatives.
In terms of costs, CONCANACO Servytur estimated that a traditional dinner for five people can range between 3,500 and 4,000 pesos.
In the case of gifts, it estimated that a Christmas gift could range from 500 to 1,500 pesos.
Recently, the National Alliance of Small Merchants (ANPEC) warned that spending for Christmas and New Year’s dinners in Mexico has increased by 17%, with an approximate cost of 17,100 pesos in 2025, while celebrating outside the home this December season can be between two and five times more expensive on average.
ANPEC projected spending of 1,400 pesos per person for a dinner with up to 15 attendees, considering that nuclear families in Mexico have approximately five members.
The data and call for responsible consumption come after official figures showed that general inflation in Mexico rose to 3.8% at the end of November, above the 3% target of the Bank of Mexico.
