MEXICO CITY — The Mexican Stock Exchange (BMV) registered a strong advance of 1.76% on Thursday, with its main indicator, the Price and Quotation Index (IPC), climbing to 61,553.58 units. This marks its sixth record close so far in September, occurring during a trading session with gains worldwide.
In the first nine sessions of the month, the Mexican index has tallied six record closes, the previous one occurring on Tuesday with 60,679.53 units, and three last week.
"The capital market closed the session with widespread gains globally due to the expectation that the Federal Reserve will resume its cycle of cuts," explained Gabriela Siller, Director of Economic and Financial Analysis at Banco Base, to EFE.
In Mexico, the expert indicated, the IPC "closed the session with a gain of 1.76%, the largest advance since August 7th (when it gained 1.94%), to reach a new historical maximum of 61,553.58 points."
Internally, Siller noted, the advances of the issuers stood out: Grupo México (+1.3%), Industrias Peñoles (+2.77%), Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste (+2.99%), América Móvil (+1.2%), and Bimbo (+1.98%).
Meanwhile, the Director of Economic Analysis at the financial group Actinver, Enrique Covarrubias, explained that with this day's movement, the Mexican index accumulated a gain in September of +4.85% and its accumulated gain so far in 2025 is 24.32%.
"This Thursday the IPC reached a new historical maximum and surpassed 61,000 units for the first time. Within the index, 30 of the 36 main issuers closed in positive territory," added Covarrubias.

During the session, the Mexican peso appreciated 0.6% against the dollar, trading at 18.48 units per greenback, compared to 18.59 the previous day, according to data from the Bank of Mexico.
The volume traded in the market reached 242 million securities for an amount of 19,212 million pesos (approximately 1,039 million dollars).
Of the 680 firms that traded during the session, 435 ended with price gains, 229 had losses, and 16 closed unchanged.
The securities with the highest upward variations were from the construction and infrastructure firm Sitios Latinoamérica (LASITE B-1), with 6.89%; the mining company Frisco (MFRISCO A-1), with 3.96%; and the frequent consumer products company Fomento Económico Mexicano (FEMSA UBD), with 3.65%.
In contrast, the largest downward variations were from the firm Corporación Mexicana de Restaurantes (CMR B), with -14.11%; the telecommunications services firm Controladora Axtel (CTAXTEL A), with -3.59%; and the oil and gas explorer Vista Oil & Gas (VISTA A), with -2.87%.
