Cancun, Quintana Roo — The Mexican Caribbean is experiencing a significant tourism surge during Holy Week and Easter, with some destinations reporting hotel occupancy rates exceeding 80%.

The region expects to welcome more than 1.2 million visitors and generate an estimated economic impact of $1 billion during this holiday period.

After morning clouds and rain caused by a cold front and trough line dissipated, more than 120,000 tourists enjoyed sunny weather with temperatures above 30°C (86°F) on Holy Saturday.

According to the Cancun, Isla Mujeres and Puerto Morelos Hotel Association, overall hotel occupancy averages 80%, surpassing state authorities’ initial forecast of 82% for Holy Week and Easter Week.

Cancun, with 41,912 hotel rooms in its hotel zone and downtown area, reported 85,626 guests. Isla Mujeres, with 11,600 rooms, hosted 22,487 visitors, while Puerto Morelos, with 6,762 rooms, counted 12,840 tourists.

The nautical sector reported operations at 70% of capacity, meeting projections, while the restaurant sector anticipates a 30% increase after a slow start to the year.
