Major Crash in Cancún Leaves Multiple Injured, Two Detained

Emergency responders at the scene of a vehicle collision in Cancún

Cancún, Quintana Roo — A serious vehicle collision at a busy intersection in Cancún left multiple people injured and resulted in two arrests on Saturday evening.

The crash occurred shortly before 9 p.m. at the intersection of Centenario and Río Hondo avenues in northwestern Cancún. A Nissan Versa and a Chevrolet Aveo collided, with both vehicles sustaining significant damage. The Versa suffered major front-end damage, while the Aveo was propelled onto the sidewalk.

Paramedics provided first aid to injured individuals at the scene before transporting them to hospitals for further treatment. Firefighters also responded to initial reports that people might be trapped in the vehicles.

Municipal authorities launched a security operation in the area. Traffic officers and personnel from the Public Security Department detained two individuals, believed to be the drivers of the vehicles involved, and turned them over to authorities to determine responsibility.

Preliminary reports suggested a paramedic might have been assaulted during the response, but officials have not confirmed this incident. Authorities will investigate what happened.

The crash site was secured while investigators conducted forensic examinations, causing traffic disruptions at what local residents describe as a high-risk intersection. Officials continue to investigate the cause of the accident.
