Isla Mujeres Cleans Up 334kg of Beach Waste

Isla Mujeres — The Isla Mujeres government, led by Municipal President Atenea Gómez Ricalde, carried out a successful cleanup event in Isla Blanca as part of International Coastal Cleanup Day, reaffirming its commitment to environmental protection and the conservation of the municipality's natural spaces.

During the event, a total of 334.3 kilograms of waste were collected. This included 158.9 kilograms of general trash, 145.4 kilograms of glass, 25 kilograms of PET plastic, and 5 kilograms of aluminum.

The Director of the Federal Maritime Terrestrial Zone (Zofemat), Dayana Pérez Medina, emphasized that these actions were carried out with the firm purpose of generating awareness among citizens about the importance of caring for the environment and fostering a culture of recycling. The goal is for Isla Mujeres to continue being a tourist destination recognized for its natural beauty and environmental commitment.

The activity saw participation from the "Gustavo Díaz Ordaz" Taxi Union, Platinum Service, the hotels Secrets Playa Blanca, Hotel Secrets, and Dreams Playa Mujeres, the National Commission of Natural Protected Areas (Conanp), and the Grupo Laguna Chacmuchuc. These groups combined their efforts for the benefit of the community and future generations.

Pérez Medina highlighted that the preservation of ecosystems has been a priority for this government. She stated that these cleanup events are part of a permanent environmental care strategy that seeks not only to collect waste but also to promote citizen education and participation in the protection of beaches, mangroves, and bodies of water.
