Isla Mujeres — With a firm commitment to strengthening the economy of the fishing sector and improving its work facilities, Isla Mujeres Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde delivered financial support of 250,000 pesos to the Isla Blanca Cooperative. This initiative is part of the Support Program for the Improvement of Infrastructure for Fishing Cooperatives, financed with 100% municipal resources.

During the delivery, the mayor emphasized that this program reaffirms her government's commitment to the men who live off the sea, recognizing their historical, economic, and cultural relevance to the island community.

"With this support, we are strengthening the work of our fishing cooperatives because we know that the fishermen are the heart of Isla Mujeres. Their effort sustains our economy, preserves our identity, and keeps our traditions alive. That is why we will continue investing so they have better tools, more security, and greater opportunities for development," stated Atenea Gómez.

Thanks to this support, the Isla Blanca Cooperative will be able to acquire computer equipment, geolocators (GPS), office equipment, horizontal freezers, and a precision scale. These tools will allow them to improve their administrative, maritime, and marketing processes.

The use of modern technology, such as geolocation systems, will also help reinforce the safety of crews and optimize the management of their daily operations, thereby strengthening the sector's productivity.

Atenea Gómez underscored that the future of Isla Mujeres depends on strengthening those who work at sea, as the fishing cooperatives represent a local pride and an essential pillar of the island's economy.

With this delivery, three cooperatives have now been benefited within the municipal program, whose goal is to reach all five fishing cooperatives in the municipality so that all have better operating and development conditions.
