Isla Mujeres, Q. Roo — The Municipal Government, led by Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde, will celebrate the fifth edition of the Luz y Vida "Between the Living and the Dead" Festival from October 30 to November 2. The festival, which honors the faithful departed, will feature a full program of activities including a maritime procession, costume contests, processions of the souls, and artistic and cultural presentations.
The festival will commence on Thursday, October 30, with the "Xibalbá" Underworld night, to be held at the Municipal Esplanade at 7:30 PM. The evening will begin with the Coronation of the Luz y Vida Ambassador 2025 and will also feature a pre-Hispanic show and artistic-cultural presentations.
The program will continue on Friday, October 31, with the Festival of Calaveritas: Night of the Children. This will begin with the Calaveritas Parade at 6:30 PM, starting from Stingray and proceeding to the Municipal Esplanade. Subsequently, at 7:30 PM, the Calaveritas Fair will be set up at the Municipal Esplanade, which will include a children's show, a Costume Contest, and artistic presentations for the youngest members of the household.
That same day, in the Continental Zone of Ciudad Mujeres, the Hanal Pixan will be celebrated. This event will take place starting at 12:00 PM at the Hugo Ravell Dome. A Day of the Dead show will be performed, traditional altars will be exhibited, and various artistic presentations will be held to bring the tradition closer to all visitors and community neighbors.
On Saturday, November 1, attendees will be able to enjoy Catrinarte: Festival of Catrinas. This will begin with the "Walking with the Souls" walk at 6:30 PM from Stingray to the Municipal Esplanade. Later, at 10:00 PM, the Catrinas Contest will be held, and the night will conclude with the stellar presentation of the show "Esto sí es Despecho," featuring the spectacular voices of Natalia Sosa, Myriam Montemayor, Aranza, and Sheyla, as well as special guest Tatiana.
To close with a flourish, on Sunday, November 2, Hanal Pixan: Night of Traditions will take place. A maritime procession will begin at 7:30 PM, culminating at the Wooden Dock (Fiscal), where traditional altars will be exhibited and the PIB Contest will be held, accompanied by the Jarana of the Souls and the presentation of the Trovadoras del Mayab at the Municipal Esplanade at 9:00 PM.
All activities are free of charge, to which the Municipal Government extends an open invitation, noting that this major event also aims to stimulate the local economy.
