PLAYA DEL CARMEN, MX — The doctor who was recorded on Monday assaulting family members of a minor patient at IMSS Clinic 18 in Playa del Carmen has reported on social media that she was physically attacked by her accusers and even by her own roommate.

In a brief video disseminated on social media, the doctor stated, in the presence of a forensic medical examiner, that she underwent an examination to document the bruises she sustained as a consequence of the attacks. She claims that her roommate also physically assaulted her after the incident went viral on social media, and despite calling the police, the officers failed to guarantee her safety and detain the roommate.

“I have bruises where I was hit yesterday, in the early morning, by the patients, who are Jehovah’s Witnesses. My neighbor, my roomie, also a woman, just hit me. The police ignored it,” she recounted.

The professional ultimately stated that she fears for her safety and wants the public to know her version of the events.

As previously reported, the initial incident occurred last weekend when beneficiaries of the healthcare service complained about an alleged lack of medical attention during a guard shift.

According to witnesses, the patients had waited for several hours without receiving a consultation, so they decided to approach the consulting room, but allegedly discovered that part of the staff was conversing outside of their duties, which generated dissatisfaction.

The argument intensified when one of the patients began recording with a cell phone, leading to a physical altercation with the doctor, who attempted to prevent the recording, resulting in pushing and shoving.

The video of the incident went viral within hours on social media, generating outrage and numerous divided opinions.

In a statement, IMSS Quintana Roo informed, just hours later, that it had initiated an administrative investigation to determine responsibilities and, if necessary, apply sanctions in accordance with the Work Regulations and the IMSS Code of Ethics.

It reported that the minor involved in the incident received medical attention in the Pediatric Emergency area and remains under the surveillance of specialized personnel.
