Tulum, Quintana Roo, December 28, 2025. — Motorists and business owners have denounced the installation of an illegal barrier to charge for parking on a street leading to Amira District, within the Aldea Zama subdivision, where a payment of between 250 and 300 pesos per vehicle is demanded to occupy a space that is a public road.
According to the complainants, unauthorized individuals placed a boom gate that impedes free parking in front of the Club de Playa Arena, a few steps from the southern entrance of the Parque del Jaguar, generating widespread discontent and direct impacts on businesses, workers, and visitors.
Local business owners warned that these abusive practices damage the destination’s image and deter national and foreign tourism, just as Tulum is beginning to recover after a period of low visitor numbers. They indicated that the charge lacks legal basis and normalizes the abuse of public space.
The complainants demanded the immediate intervention of the Tulum Municipal Transit Directorate to remove the boom gate, restore order, and apply exemplary sanctions against those responsible. They warned that institutional omission turns illegality into a custom.
The demand is direct: authority on site, the charge canceled, and punishment for those who profit from what does not belong to them. Tulum cannot continue tolerating abuse in broad daylight.
