Riviera Maya, Mexico — Iberostar Hotels & Resorts has announced the opening of a new five-star, all-inclusive resort located in the Riviera Maya, a move that forms part of the chain's expansion strategy in Mexico. With the opening of the Iberostar Selection Riviera Cancún, the company now operates 12 hotels and more than 4,400 rooms in the country, aiming to strengthen its presence in one of the most competitive tourist destinations in the Caribbean.

The new hotel is located 20 minutes from the Cancún International Airport, near the fishing village of Puerto Morelos.

Expansion and Economic Impact

The new resort was incorporated into Iberostar's portfolio on November 1 and is estimated to create up to 650 new jobs.

"This new project reflects our commitment to excellence and to creating unique experiences for every client. It also reaffirms our bet on local talent, promoting a model of responsible tourism that generates lasting value for communities, destinations, and the industry," said Phil Mc Aveety, General Director of Iberostar Hotels & Resorts.

According to the executive, this opening reaffirms the chain's commitment to Mexico as a key destination within its strategy of selective expansion in major international tourist markets.

A Focus on Sustainability

The Iberostar Selection Riviera Cancún features 444 suites with jacuzzis. It includes family rooms, swim-up suites with direct access to semi-private pools, and oceanfront suites, designed to offer a luxury experience.

This hotel operates under the Iberostar Selection category, focused on offering premium experiences for couples seeking privacy as well as families interested in shared activities and comprehensive services.

Furthermore, the resort will form part of the Iberostar Wave of Change movement, the chain's sustainable operational model that seeks to contribute to responsible tourism through the circular economy and the development of resilient destinations. The establishment does not use single-use plastics in the guest experience, offers purified drinking water fountains, and guarantees the consumption of fish and seafood from responsible sources.

Iberostar Hotels & Resorts is the hotel division and main business of Grupo Iberostar, a Spanish multinational with nearly 70 years of history in the tourism sector. Its portfolio includes 100 four- and five-star hotels in 13 countries, with 32,000 rooms and 2.5 million annual clients.
