Cancun, Quintana Roo — A measles vaccination campaign in Cancun has drawn unexpectedly high turnout, with health personnel working late into the night to meet demand at a station in Plaza de la Reforma.
Municipal Health Director Héctor González Rodríguez announced that daily vaccination capacity has been increased to nearly 600 doses to accommodate the surge. “The goal is to cover the demand and reinforce health protection in the municipality,” he said.
The station operates from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and officials assured there is sufficient supply for all interested individuals.
Weekend Mega Brigade Boosted Coverage
The intensified campaign follows a large-scale vaccination brigade held over the weekend of February 14-15, designed to expand coverage and reduce outbreak risks. Two major stations were set up:
- At City Hall, open from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
- At the Supermanzana 94 dome on Saturday, February 14, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Additionally, a fixed station at City Hall will remain active throughout February with extended hours.
Free Vaccines Part of National Strategy
Authorities emphasized that all doses are completely free and represent one of the most effective tools for preventing disease, avoiding complications, and protecting vulnerable populations.
The campaign is coordinated with the federal Health Ministry and the Mexican government as part of a national strategy promoted by President Claudia Sheinbaum and Quintana Roo Governor Mara Lezama. Officials are urging residents to check their vaccination records and complete their immunization schedules, noting that vaccination not only provides individual protection but strengthens community health by reducing the risk of mass infections.
