Cancún, Quintana Roo — Personnel from Jurisdicción Sanitaria No. 2 have launched a nebulization operation in the public and private cemeteries of the municipality of Benito Juárez with the purpose of preventing diseases such as dengue, zika, and chikungunya.

The director of the Vectors area, Melchor Ojeda, reported that over two days, tasks will be carried out to eliminate containers with accumulated water and apply larvicides, as part of preventive actions ahead of the celebration of the Day of the Dead.

He explained that, due to recent rains, the activities will be intensified to prevent the proliferation of the transmitting mosquito. "We are here to remove any container that holds rainwater. In recent months, it has rained quite a bit and, unfortunately, many people leave deposits with water in the cemeteries. Our job is to eliminate them and, in cases where it is not possible, apply larvicides to prevent the reproduction of the mosquito," he stated.

Ojeda emphasized that in addition to these actions, the goal is to raise awareness among the public to use artificial flowers instead of natural ones, since vases with water become potential breeding grounds for the vector.

Finally, he highlighted that the primary objective is to ensure that the thousands of visitors who will go to the cemeteries during these dates do so under safe conditions. Approximately 15 workers from the Vectors area are participating in this operation.
