X-Querol, Quintana Roo — A young girl was hospitalized on Monday afternoon after being bitten by a venomous snake, believed to be a nauyaca, in the backyard of her family home in the village of X-Querol.

The incident prompted an emergency response after the girl’s mother, identified as Demetria Poot Cohuo, contacted police for help transporting her daughter to the hospital in José María Morelos.

Authorities dispatched a patrol unit with three officers to the village. Upon arrival, they encountered the mother in the street, who explained her daughter needed urgent medical attention due to the snake bite.

The officers reported the situation to police director Humberto Pech Zapata, who ordered them to transport the girl to the hospital as quickly as possible.

At the José María Morelos Integral Hospital, doctor Ulsis Fraile Escamilla treated the girl. She was admitted and remained hospitalized under observation, accompanied by her mother.
