Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Quintana Roo — Authorities arrested four people suspected of involvement in the killing of a state police officer during an armed attack on February 15.
The State Prosecutor’s Office confirmed the arrests, which occurred during a joint operation involving municipal, state, and federal forces on the Chunpon–Tepich highway in Tepich, within the municipality of Felipe Carrillo Puerto.
Officers seized three R15-type rifles, caliber 5.56 mm, considered for exclusive use by the armed forces, from the suspects.
Suspects Linked to Criminal Cell
Investigators linked the detainees to the attack on state police officers conducting operational duties on the San Ramón–Tepich highway. The officer, identified as Alejandro “N,” sustained injuries and later died in a hospital.
Preliminary investigations suggest the suspects are part of a criminal cell involved in drug trafficking, contract killings, and extortion in the region.
The operation involved personnel from the Investigation Police, the Mexican Army, the Mexican Navy, the Public Security Department, and Municipal Police.
Authorities identified one suspect as Jorge Luis “N,” alias “El Mantis.” The group also includes one man and two teenage girls.
Officials handed the teenage suspects over to the specialized prosecutor’s office for minors, while Jorge Luis “N” remains before the prosecutor’s office to determine his legal status.
