Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Firefighters rescued a woman from a house fire in Playa del Carmen on Thursday after a passing driver spotted smoke billowing from the second floor of a residence and alerted emergency services.
The incident occurred at the intersection of Juárez Avenue and 135th Avenue in the Bellavista neighborhood. A driver traveling along Juárez Avenue noticed a dense column of smoke coming from the upper level of a home and stopped to investigate.
Upon seeing a woman inside the smoke-filled building, the driver immediately called 911 to report the fire and request emergency assistance.
Firefighters and security personnel arrived minutes later and entered the home to locate the trapped woman. They successfully rescued her from the building. While she suffered an emotional crisis from the ordeal, she did not sustain physical injuries.
Red Cross paramedics provided on-site emotional stabilization and pre-hospital care, determining she did not require transport to a hospital.
Meanwhile, firefighters began operations to extinguish the flames, which were concentrated in one of the second-floor bedrooms. Crews worked for several minutes to control the fire, conducting cooling and ventilation procedures to prevent it from spreading to other areas of the home or neighboring residences.
Authorities secured the area to facilitate emergency operations and protect neighbors and passing motorists.
After completely extinguishing the blaze and ensuring no remaining hot spots could reignite, firefighters conducted a visual inspection to assess material damage before leaving the scene.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with authorities working to determine how the blaze started.
