Mexico City — Citing public utility, the federal government decreed the expropriation of 18 more properties spanning 115,428 square meters, located in five states in the southeast of the country, for the construction of three sections of the Maya Train.

The decree, published by the Presidency of the Republic, includes the buildings and installations found on the private real estate, and as of today, the Ministry of Agrarian, Territorial, and Urban Development is proceeding with their immediate occupation.

It states that the land is for the execution of sections 1, 4, and 6 of the Maya Train, with these properties located as follows: nine in Palenque, Chiapas; three in Escárcega, Campeche; three in Tabasco; two in Yucatán; and one in Bacalar, Quintana Roo.

The decree, which entered into force this Tuesday, did not specify the value of the properties. It only states that the Institute of Administration and Appraisal of National Assets determined the unit price per square meter and that the owners of the properties have a period of ten business days following notification to initiate judicial proceedings for the sole purpose of contesting the amount of the compensation.

Additionally, 00-00-55 hectares of parceled use land from the Maxcanú ejido, located in the municipality of Maxcanú, state of Yucatán, were expropriated for the construction of railway infrastructure works for the Maya Train project and its complementary works for Section 3, Calkiní-Izamal.

As compensation, the Maxcanú ejido will receive 4,152 pesos and 70 centavos.

In a separate decree, 27-51-70 hectares of rain-fed land for parceled use were expropriated for sections 1, “Palenque-Escárcega,” and section 7, “Chetumal-Escárcega,” with a commercial value amounting to 2 million 985 thousand 867 pesos.
