Elderly Man Struck by Public Transport Van in Tulum, Suspected of Being Intoxicated

Tulum, Quintana Roo — An elderly man sustained injuries after being struck by a public transport van on the main avenue of this popular tourist destination, with witnesses suggesting he may have been intoxicated at the time of the incident.

According to information gathered at the scene, the accident occurred when the man attempted to cross the roadway without taking proper precautions. Witnesses reported that he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol while crossing the avenue, which may have prevented him from noticing an approaching passenger van traveling from south to north.

The vehicle was unable to stop in time and struck the elderly man, who fell onto the pavement. Concerned bystanders and motorists who witnessed the incident called emergency services, prompting a rapid response from rescue teams.

Private company paramedics arrived at the scene to provide pre-hospital care to the injured man. After conducting an assessment, they reported he had suffered blunt force trauma but did not require hospital transport. The paramedics also noted he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.

Police officers responded to document the incident and ensure safety in the area due to the constant flow of traffic on the busy thoroughfare. To prevent the elderly man from exposing himself to further risk or causing another accident, officers transported him to police facilities for safekeeping.

The incident caused temporary traffic disruption, which was restored once authorities completed their work at the scene. Officials urged both pedestrians and drivers to exercise extreme caution, particularly on high-traffic avenues, to avoid accidents that could endanger people’s safety.
