Cancún — The Eco-Bahía México Foundation, the environmental arm of Grupo Piñero, has consolidated its role as a reference in marine-coastal conservation of the Mexican Caribbean by presenting the results of its Sak Program during 2025.

The Sak Program focuses on protecting beaches and oceans through cleanup events, scientific analysis of waste, and intensive environmental education work, seeking to reduce marine pollution and foster a culture of shared responsibility.

Throughout the year, the Sak Program’s commitment translated into significant figures: Twelve coastal cleanup events (10 at Playa Aventuras DIF and two at Playa Xcacel-Xcacelito).

The actions involved 237 participants, including employees of Bahía Príncipe Hotels & Resorts, residents of Tulum Country Club, ZOFEMAT Tulum, and environmental allies.

A total of 3.32 kilometers of beach were cleaned, 4,170 nurdles (primary microplastics) were collected, and 600.56 kilograms of solid waste were removed from the coastal environment.

In addition to field action, the program strengthened its scientific component. 329.95 kg of washed-up and dune waste were analyzed and classified monthly. This information was systematized and shared with the international organization Ocean Conservancy, contributing to the global understanding of marine pollution patterns and reinforcing data-driven decision-making.

“The Sak Program represents much more than cleanup events; it is a tool of awareness, science, and collective action. Every piece of waste removed and every piece of data shared contributes to protecting our oceans and building a more responsible relationship between communities and their natural environment,” said Luis Verdín, manager of the Eco-Bahía Foundation in Mexico.

The program’s success was possible thanks to a solid network of collaboration with strategic allies such as Tulum Circula, ZofemayOFEMAT Tulum, Nurdle Patrol, Casa Cruz Inmobiliaria, Colillarte, and Scubaquatic, which have strengthened the reach and environmental impact of Sak.

These actions align with the mission of the Eco-Bahía Foundation, which since 1999 has promoted a model of regenerative tourism where conservation of natural capital, environmental education, and community collaboration are fundamental pillars to ensure a sustainable future in the area.
