Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo — An unusual accident caused alarm at the entrance to Puerto Morelos on the lateral lanes of Federal Highway 307, where a dump truck collided with and dragged a car for several meters in front of a gas station before fleeing the scene. No injuries were reported, only the fright of the driver of the impacted vehicle.
At the moment of the incident, which occurred on Thursday afternoon, an officer from the Directorate of Traffic and Roadways was at the intersection of the highway and the vehicle exit from Chaca Street. Upon noticing the collision, the officer ran alongside the dump truck in an attempt to get the driver to stop his vehicle while it was dragging a Nissan Versa-type automobile.
This situation was captured in a video disseminated on social media, in which it is apparent that the dump truck impacts the middle left side of the car with its front section and, in that position, drags it for more than 10 meters, up to a pedestrian crossing located in front of a gas station.
Witnesses to the accident mentioned that the car’s driver exited from Chaca Street, attempting to cross the highway’s lateral lanes at the roundabout located beneath the vehicle overpass, and at that moment, was struck by the cargo truck.
After being dragged, the car spun around, which caused it to become dislodged from the front of the dump truck, ending up facing the opposite direction, while the truck left the location without being found.
The Traffic officers confirmed that the driver of the car emerged unscathed, suffering only from a tremendous fright, while the vehicle sustained damage to its left side.
Elements of the National Guard arrived to secure the area.
