Between Tulum and Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A man died Monday afternoon after suffering an apparent heart attack while driving on Federal Highway 307, a major route connecting tourist destinations on Mexico’s Caribbean coast.
The incident occurred near kilometer 276 on the highway, between the Paamul and Punta Venado areas. Witnesses reported the vehicle suddenly slowed and pulled to the side of the road.
Other motorists called emergency services after noticing the driver was unresponsive. Paramedics arrived quickly and attempted first aid but confirmed the man had no vital signs.
National Guard highway division officers cordoned off the area while authorities conducted their investigation. Personnel from the State Prosecutor’s Office later removed the body for transfer to the forensic medical service, where an official cause of death will be determined.
Preliminary reports suggest a sudden heart attack, though medical authorities will make the final determination. The incident caused slow traffic in the area for several minutes during the response and vehicle removal.
