Cozumel, QR. — The natural beauty of Cozumel makes the island an ideal setting for film tourism, according to Farah Ceh, following a visit to the set of a commercial that will be broadcast worldwide next year.

Throughout the year, four international productions have requested support from the municipal government led by José Luis Chacón, reflecting the growth of film tourism in the destination, Ceh indicated.

Cozumel is a tourist destination that possesses all the characteristics and advantages to become one of the best film tourism scenarios due to its landscapes and natural locations, but, above all, for its security.

Cozumel Projects Itself to the World Through Film Tourism

She emphasized that the "island of the swallows" has the elements to attract film, television, documentary, and commercial productions, thereby generating economic benefits, employment, and tourist promotion for the island, which are priorities for the municipal president, José Luis Chacón Méndez.

Recently, a team of 32 people, of which 12 were foreigners, occupied 42 hotel rooms for several days, also benefiting restaurants, travel agencies, and transportation services—an example of the economic impact of film tourism in Cozumel.

The presence of studios and events related to this market segment increases the visibility and prestige of the destination, which is considered a natural dream plate with the backdrop of the Caribbean Sea, a main attraction for underwater filming and aquatic activities, which increases international promotion to a global audience, functioning as massive and very effective publicity.

It is called film tourism or cine-tourism, the practice of traveling to places that allow audiovisual production companies to find safe, attractive locations with logistical facilities.

"Cozumel has all this and more to establish itself as a first-class film destination, not only for its natural beauty and security, but for the capacity of this tourist segment to revitalize the local economy and project its charm to the entire world," highlighted José Elías Farah.
