Quintana Roo, Mexico — Costa Mujeres is establishing itself as a new luxury tourist destination in Quintana Roo, now ranking just below Cancún in hotel occupancy rates. With its luxury resorts, pristine beaches, and exclusivity, this area north of Isla Blanca is increasingly being chosen by tourists as an alternative to Cancún's hotel zone.

A Rising Competitor in Hotel Occupancy

In less than 10 years, Costa Mujeres has doubled its hotel capacity, and its occupancy now rivals that of Cancún, according to official data from Quintana Roo's Tourism Information System (SITURQ).

During the week of September 27 to October 3, this emerging destination registered a 57.9 percent hotel occupancy rate, surpassing the Riviera Maya, Tulum, Cozumel, Isla Mujeres, and the Grand Costa Maya.

These figures are from what is considered the low season, which occurs after the summer and before the year-end holidays starting in December and part of January. In the past month of July, Costa Mujeres exceeded 80 percent occupancy, outperforming Cancún, which barely surpassed 75 percent; the rest of the destinations had figures similar to Cancún's.

The Allure of Costa Mujeres

While Cancún remains the epicenter of mass tourism, Costa Mujeres offers a more relaxed and personalized experience. It features high-end all-inclusive complexes designed for couples or families seeking rest without the typical crowds.

Its proposal combines sustainability, privacy, and direct access to one of the calmest beaches in the state, plus its proximity to Isla Contoy and Chiquilá, the gateway to Holbox.

Furthermore, its strategic location, less than 10 minutes from the ferry to Isla Mujeres, allows visitors to enjoy the best of both worlds: the calm of the north and the nightlife of the Caribbean.

Travel and Timing

Getting to Costa Mujeres is straightforward. The journey by road from Cancún International Airport takes between 25 and 35 minutes. The best time to visit is from November to May.

During the low season, accommodation prices tend to be more accessible, and the atmosphere is even more tranquil for fully enjoying the white-sand beaches and turquoise sea without strong waves.
