Tizimín, Yucatán – The traditional equestrian parade inaugurating the Convite of the Tizimín Feria de los Reyes 2025 was held this Sunday, November 9, with an estimated participation of at least 600 horse-and-rider pairs, who traversed the municipality's streets on a route of approximately seven kilometers, marking the joint return of tradition, family, and community.

Tradition, Revelry, and Families of All Ages

The cavalcade began promptly at 11:00 a.m. from the city center and concluded at approximately 5:00 p.m., registering a festive atmosphere in which children, youth, adults, and senior citizens participated, either mounted or accompanying the riders. It was a day of pure family coexistence, a portrait that the tradition remains alive in the "City of the Kings."

The organizers detailed that specific meeting points were established, such as Calle 49 between 46 and 48 for riders, spaces closed to traffic from early morning, and security filters to prevent incidents. This logistics was key to guaranteeing the orderly development of the event.

Minor Incidents, But an Overall Positive Outcome With an Undercurrent of Alcohol and Drug Excesses

Despite the high attendance and the mix of generations and horse breeds, the event concluded with a positive outcome; no serious injuries or altercations that affected the general day were reported.

Nevertheless, local sources indicated that during the journey, more than 20 minor fights occurred, many originating from the high consumption of alcohol and drugs attributed to visitors from other municipalities such as Cancún. Municipal authorities reported that they acted quickly to contain conflicts in the area of the Plazita de Toros, preventing them from intensifying.

This result contrasts with previous editions of the cavalcade where serious injuries and fatalities due to accidents with animals or altercations between riders and spectators were recorded. The improvement is attributed to the strategy of preventive protection and police control established for the event.

While there was good control, there are things that cannot be minimized and that must be addressed as soon as possible; the underlying cause of the disturbances recorded in the Plazita de Toros during the Convite cannot be minimized.

The excess of alcohol, the consumption of drugs such as crack, and the presence of groups from other municipalities, especially from Cancún, reflect a reality that goes beyond the celebration: the lack of control, prevention, and limits in public spaces.

Each year, permissiveness and the absence of effective security strategies aggravate a phenomenon that threatens to lead to greater tragedies. Tizimín cannot normalize violence or social deterioration under the shelter of the festival. What was once a family tradition gathering today demands firm actions, vigilance, and collective awareness to prevent pride in our roots from turning into scenarios of danger and loss.

A Symbolic Start to the Fair

Beyond a cavalcade, the Convite functions as the symbolic start of the Feria de los Reyes of Tizimín, a celebration with colonial roots that mixes cattle-ranching culture, traditional dance, gastronomy, and devotion to the Three Wise Men.

The massive participation, the intergenerational character, and the orderly conclusion of the route represent an organizational triumph for the local authorities, who sought to reconcile tradition and security in this edition. Although the outcome was positive, challenges persist for future editions: controlling the excess of alcohol and the consumption of substances among external attendees, guaranteeing that riders complete the route, and reinforcing the security structure to prevent major incidents.

The success of this cavalcade, however, makes it clear that the Tizimín community continues to value this type of event as a core of its cultural identity and a space of pride for tradition and family.

With over 600 pairs at a gallop and a festive atmosphere that extended for hours, the Convite 2025 confirmed that the tradition is not only preserved but is lived with intensity, despite today's challenges.
