Quintana Roo — A free children’s race series will tour four cities in Quintana Roo starting in late April, aiming to bring recreational sports to communities with limited access to such activities.
The fourth edition of Club Jaguares’ free children’s race series will kick off on April 25 in Tulum and continue through Puerto Aventuras, Chetumal, and Cancún. Organizers hope to attract 500 children aged 4 to 12, particularly from areas where economic barriers often prevent participation in organized sports.
“We’ve been running these events for four years in neighborhoods like Tres Reyes, La Jungla, and Rosario, as well as locations in Cancún such as Kilómetro Cero,” said Daniel Pech, an elementary school teacher and project member. “One key outcome has been identifying athletic talent in areas that typically lack permanent track and field programs.”
Pech noted that two children discovered through these community races now represent Quintana Roo in state-level competitions after beginning their training with Club Jaguares.
The series schedule begins with a 7:00 a.m. event in Tulum on Saturday, April 25. Activities move to the Puerto Maya sports complex track in Puerto Aventuras on Sunday, April 26, followed by Chetumal on Saturday, May 2, and conclude in Cancún on Sunday, May 3.
Club Jaguares President Isabel George emphasized the program’s social and physical activation goals. “We focus on early physical activity to establish sports habits at a young age and reduce time spent in sedentary behaviors linked to excessive technology use,” she explained.
Each registration includes a commemorative 2026 edition t-shirt, medal, hydration, and additional support items that vary by location, such as candy, toys, or participant incentives. Due to high demand for the free events, official registration information will be announced through the club’s social media channels to facilitate early sign-ups.
In Puerto Aventuras, Club Jaguares maintains weekly training sessions Monday through Friday for children, featuring crossfit, functional work, and running technique. These sessions are supported by the Prosperidad Deportiva program and the Playa del Carmen Sports Institute. The Puerto Aventuras location currently hosts the majority of participants in the Jaguares Kids program under the supervision of coach Marilyn.
The organization reports approximately 350 total participants across all age categories at its various locations, with some athletes later transitioning to disciplines like triathlon, swimming, rowing, or canoeing.
Beyond competition, organizers say the sports program has served as social and emotional support for participants dealing with anxiety, addiction, or physical health issues. They plan to expand the program to additional municipalities in future editions.
Complete registration details and rules will be available on the official Facebook and Instagram pages of Club Jaguares Cancún, Club Jaguares Puerto Aventuras, and Club Jaguares Chetumal.
