Chetumal, Quintana Roo — A Chetumal woman has filed a formal complaint with Mexico’s consumer protection agency after her 2024 Peugeot 2008 SUV spent seven months at a dealership repair shop with unresolved mechanical and safety issues.

Georgina Argüelles Herrera reported that her Peugeot 2008 Allure Pack, purchased new in 2024, began experiencing problems after about a year of use. The vehicle entered the Chetumal Automotores dealership service center in August 2025 and has remained there ever since.

According to Argüelles, the SUV displayed multiple warning lights, experienced sudden power loss, jerky gear shifts, and braking system failures. She also reported issues with the electronic stability and traction control systems (ESP/ASR) and delays in the backup camera activation—all components directly related to driver and passenger safety.

The dealership has cited delays in parts delivery and problems with various electronic modules as reasons for the extended repair time. However, promised delivery dates have been repeatedly postponed, and the vehicle has not been returned in proper working condition.

Meanwhile, Argüelles continues to make monthly loan payments and maintain insurance on the immobilized vehicle. She says she has incurred additional transportation costs for work and family obligations while also facing the vehicle’s natural depreciation and reduced effective warranty period.

On January 15, 2026, Argüelles filed a formal complaint with the Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco), detailing the mechanical failures and the dealership’s unsatisfactory response. She says the only offer she received after several months was coverage of one monthly payment, which she considers insufficient given the vehicle’s seven-month immobilization.

Argüelles expressed uncertainty about the vehicle’s actual condition upon potential return and stated she would take public action to highlight her case if she doesn’t receive a clear solution soon. The Profeco complaint process continues while the SUV remains at the dealership and monthly payments continue without resolution.
