Milan, Italy — The culinary talent of Yucatán has once again shone on the international stage with the recognition awarded to Chef Wilson Alonzo, a native of Halachó, during the 2025 edition of The Best Chef Awards.
Alonzo, the founder of the Ya’aché restaurant in his hometown, received a knife as an award, a distinction that recognizes emerging talents and those who contribute significantly to the gastronomic world. This year, his career also led him to represent Mérida, a Creative City of Gastronomy, at the Dna Festival 2025.
Considered one of the leading ambassadors of Yucatecan cuisine, Alonzo has dedicated his career not only to author-driven cuisine but also to the rescue and investigation of the Mayan culinary tradition. "This is a great step forward for local cuisine. At Ya’aché we know we have the responsibility to care for the legacy of our grandparents," the chef expressed on his social media after receiving the award.
His work has been key in the preservation of ancestral techniques, native ingredients, and recipes passed down through generations, consolidating Yucatán as a gastronomic reference worldwide and highlighting the cultural value of its cuisine on international stages.
