Cancún, Quintana Roo — Power outages and voltage fluctuations from the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) have disrupted drinking water supply across much of Cancún and Isla Mujeres since the start of the year, with more than 10 incidents recorded.
Failures and maintenance work on the CFE electrical grid frequently interrupt the drinking water supply by halting the operation of pumping equipment, lift stations, and water treatment plants. These systems depend directly on the electrical supply, so any variation or outage immediately impacts service distribution to thousands of residents in Cancún and Isla Mujeres.
On Saturday, February 14, during CFE’s electrical system depressurization maneuvers, a leak occurred at kilometer zero at the entrance to Cancún’s Hotel Zone. This directly impacted the Aguakan water network and caused additional disruptions beyond those already experienced.
Despite efforts to learn about CFE’s work schedule, no defined dates or times for the completion of its tasks are currently available, limiting operational planning capacity.
Meanwhile, Aguakan continues working within its scope to assist the community and mitigate the impacts, providing water supply support to schools, hospitals, and domestic customers with greater need during this contingency.
The company remains attentive to the electrical authority’s instructions and continues implementing operational measures to ensure service continuity as much as possible.
