Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) will cut power to the Playacar area for six and a half hours on Friday, February 27, to perform maintenance on the electrical distribution network.
The outage is scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and will affect homes, hotels, and businesses in the tourist and residential complex south of downtown Playa del Carmen.
CFE officials said the work involves necessary operational tasks on the electrical infrastructure, requiring a complete shutdown during technical maneuvers. The utility noted the interruption includes preparatory work, direct intervention, and system restoration, meaning power will be off for the entire announced period.
Authorities recommended residents and businesses take preventive measures, such as securing sensitive electronic equipment, adjusting operations that rely on continuous power, and preparing backup alternatives.
CFE stated the work could be canceled without notice if weather conditions prevent safe execution, depending on conditions on the scheduled day.
Playacar is one of Playa del Carmen’s most important tourist and residential areas, featuring all-inclusive hotels, villas, condominiums, golf courses, and commercial services that cater to both visitors and a sizable resident population. The power supply is crucial for hotel operations, air conditioning, water pumping, telecommunications, and food services.
The notification, issued on February 23, 2026, follows established regulatory procedures for planned infrastructure interventions. CFE emphasized the advance notice aims to help users prepare for the temporary loss of electricity.
