Cancún, Quintana Roo — Restaurants in Cancún reported a roughly 90% surge in sales on Valentine’s Day, marking a strong boost for the local hospitality sector as diners flocked to celebrate the holiday.

Perla Flores Navarro, president of the Cancún chapter of the National Chamber of the Restaurant and Seasoned Food Industry (Canirac), said the increase provided a welcome respite for the industry at the start of a key year for recovery and stability in the Mexican Caribbean’s dining scene. She noted that restaurants in Cancún remain the preferred gathering spot for couples, friend groups, and families seeking a special experience during the celebration.

Flores Navarro explained that the destination’s wide culinary offerings—including international, Mexican, chef-driven, and themed cuisine—were a key factor in attracting both local patrons and tourists.

She added that advance planning allowed establishments to design attractive strategies such as special menus, exclusive promotions, gifts, and table-side serenades, which enhanced the customer experience and raised the average check size.

“February 14 was a positive date for the restaurant sector in Cancún. We prepared in advance to offer differentiated experiences and stay at the forefront,” she said.

Flores Navarro also noted that with these results, Canirac Cancún reaffirms the sector’s importance to the local economy, particularly during key seasons like Valentine’s Day, when demand rises for restaurants, romantic dinners, and special celebrations in the tourist destination.
