Cancún, Mexico — Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa and National Commissioner of the National Migration Institute (INM), Sergio Salomón Céspedes Peregrina, reviewed measures implemented to enhance immigration processing at Cancún International Airport during a working meeting held this past weekend. The airport serves as one of Mexico’s primary entry points for international travelers.
Streamlined Immigration Process
“We continue to make progress in improving the experience for passengers arriving by air to Cancún, working hand in hand with the Mexican government to ensure a faster, safer, and more connected entry process,” stated Governor Lezama.
Among the key achievements highlighted was the reduction of average wait times at immigration checkpoints to under 20 minutes, significantly accelerating the entry of both domestic and international tourists into the state. Additionally, free Wi-Fi is now available in the immigration area, allowing passengers to stay connected while waiting.
“We have also improved the service and information provided to international travelers, from their arrival to their official entry into the country,” Lezama added.
Regional Visitor Cards and Continued Efforts
The governor further noted that the southern region of the state continues to regularly issue Regional Visitor Cards, a crucial tool for strengthening tourism and commerce in the capital, Chetumal, and its border with Central America.
“As we build the second level of transformation, we will continue working to streamline processes and ensure that the arrival of our visitors is the best possible experience,” emphasized Lezama.
These measures reaffirm the state government’s commitment to enhancing the Mexican Caribbean’s tourism competitiveness by prioritizing efficient immigration procedures and dignified service for the millions of visitors who choose Quintana Roo as their destination each year.
