Mexico City — A judge has ruled that the company Calica will only be allowed to enter its quarry mines for the purpose of remediating the ecosystem in the affected zone of Quintana Roo. The resolution mandates that the firm's activities on its properties are restricted exclusively to environmental restoration efforts.

The legal decision reinforces the position of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat), which has maintained that the company's primary obligation is to address the environmental impact caused by its mining operations. The ruling limits Calica's access to its land holdings, prohibiting any further extraction activities and focusing solely on the mandated restoration work.

The case centers on the environmental degradation linked to Calica's quarrying operations in the state. The judicial order specifies that the company's presence on the premises is authorized only for actions directly related to healing the damaged ecosystem.

No further details regarding the timeline or specific scope of the required remediation were disclosed in the ruling.
