Chetumal, Quintana Roo — Federal and state authorities launched a major operation on Saturday afternoon after residents reported finding two burned vehicles in a brush area on the outskirts of the Magisterial neighborhood in the state capital.
Officers located the vehicles at the end of Tecnológico de Tuxtla Gutiérrez Street, in a hard-to-reach area surrounded by dense vegetation that complicated initial inspection efforts.
Neighbors alerted authorities after noticing the burned cars, prompting a rapid response from the Public Security Department and the National Guard. Officials confirmed both vehicles had been almost completely consumed by fire.
After securing the area, the State Prosecutor’s Office began processing the scene. Forensic experts collected evidence, focusing on recovering engine serial numbers to identify the owners and check if the vehicles were reported stolen.
Authorities have not announced any arrests or indicated whether this incident might be connected to other criminal activity in the area. Investigations continue to determine the origin of the fire.
