Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Emergency crews rescued a dog and her three puppies from an abandoned construction site in the city’s industrial zone after a 911 call reported the animals in distress.
The report prompted a multi-agency response involving municipal security personnel, animal control officers, and civil protection teams who safely extracted the animals from the vacant building.
Authorities have opened an investigation under Quintana Roo’s Animal Protection and Welfare Law to identify and sanction those responsible for abandoning the animals in conditions that compromised their physical safety.
The dog and her puppies were taken to a shelter where veterinarians conducted medical evaluations. Specialists confirmed signs of neglect consistent with abandonment.
At the scene, officials collected evidence for the investigation file, which will determine responsibility, including whether the property owner or anyone else was maintaining the animals in those conditions.
