Playa del Carmen, Mexico — Municipal authorities are advancing negotiations with the H10 hotel to open access to Montecarlo Beach, which holds the Blue Flag certification. The project also includes plans to develop infrastructure and services to enhance the visitor experience.
Comprehensive Development Plan for 2026
Irving Lili Madrigal, Director of the Federal Maritime Terrestrial Zone (Zofemat), stated that the goal is to implement an integrated plan for the area in 2026. The proposal includes constructing restrooms and improving mobility in Xcalacoco, where the current access is narrow and lacks parking spaces.
“First, we will open the access, and then we will proceed with these improvements,” Madrigal explained. He emphasized that discussions are also underway with neighboring hotels to secure additional support for the project.
Madrigal added that, in coordination with the Secretariat of Planning, a comprehensive zoning scheme is being developed for the area. He noted that Mayor Estefanía Mercado has shown particular interest in strengthening conditions at the municipality’s public beaches.
Finally, Madrigal confirmed that assessments have already been conducted on the current state of all public beaches, identifying priority needs for upgrades.
