Gunfire Erupts in Playa del Carmen Settlement

A nighttime scene depicting police vehicles and personnel gathered near a street in a rural area with a truck in the background and foliage surrounding them.

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — An exchange of gunfire between armed groups caused alarm in the early hours of Monday, November 10, around 3:00 a.m. in the "In House" land invasion zone, west of the city.

Residents of the irregular settlement, awakened by detonations and explosions, alerted emergency services, prompting a response from police forces from all three levels of government.

Obstacles Hamper Police Response

Upon arrival, officers faced obstacles: metal spike strips and homemade explosives blocked access routes. Furthermore, they identified numerous spent shell casings that evidenced the intensity of the shootout.

Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported, although residents remained sheltered while the area was secured.

Investigation Underway

The State Attorney General's Office has not revealed details about the groups involved or the motive. Meanwhile, investigative agents continue with procedures and the collection of evidence to identify the origin of the shooting.

This is not an isolated incident, as the neighborhood has registered recurring violence due to disputes between criminal cells.
