Cancún, Quintana Roo — Municipal President Ana Paty Peralta officially inaugurated the fourth edition of the Inter Regions Fútbol 7 Tournament 2025 at the iconic Estadio Cancún 86. The event drew over 2,000 attendees, including athletes and family members, marking a significant milestone in the city’s efforts to promote community through sports.
A Celebration of Sports and Unity
Peralta emphasized the tournament’s growth, noting that participation has expanded from approximately 800 athletes in its first edition to 2,116 this year. “It’s a pleasure to be here at this celebration of sports, which unites Cancún across its regions and through the hearts of every child and young person,” she stated.
The municipal government continues to foster values, identity, and hope among youth through such initiatives. Peralta, a staunch advocate for sports, reiterated her commitment to advancing athletic development not only through events but also by upgrading infrastructure, including replacing synthetic turf across all sports fields.
At 6:31 p.m. on Saturday, June 21, Peralta declared the tournament open, saying, “I hereby formally inaugurate the 2025 Inter Regions Tournament in the Fútbol 7 category. Best of luck to all 136 participating teams. Long live sports, long live soccer, and long live Cancún!”
Recognition and Participation
Alejandro Luna López, Director of the Benito Juárez Sports Institute, praised Peralta as the “President of Sports” for her unwavering support across all athletic disciplines. He highlighted the transformative power of sports in shaping lives and communities.
Before the opening ceremony, athlete Valentina Pool Chan led the sports oath, with all participants pledging to uphold fair play and tournament regulations. The event also featured a traditional parade of the 136 teams around the stadium, followed by a flag ceremony conducted by the Benito Juárez Militarized Sports Squad and the Municipal Secretariat of Citizen Security and Transit (SMSCyT) band. Attendees sang the Quintana Roo and Mexican national anthems.
Enthusiastic Engagement
The excitement among athletes was palpable, with many requesting Peralta’s autograph on jerseys, shoes, and notebooks as mementos of the occasion. Notable attendees included Popular Sports Coordinator Raymundo Polanco Córdova and Tournament Coordinator Víctor Domínguez, alongside parents, friends, and neighbors.
