Quintana Roo’s 2027 Governor Race: Two Mayors Lead Polls

Ana Paty Peralta and Estefanía Mercado, mayors of Benito Juárez and Solidaridad municipalities in Quintana Roo

Chetumal, Quintana Roo – The political landscape in Quintana Roo is already showing the first signs of the contest for the governorship in 2027, with municipal presidents Ana Paty Peralta and Estefanía Mercado emerging as the main contenders. A recent poll by the firm Mitofsky has highlighted citizen approval for both officials, placing them in prominent positions nationally and consolidating their potential for the state succession.

The Mitofsky poll, which evaluated 150 municipal presidents across the country, places Ana Paty Peralta, mayor of Benito Juárez (Cancún), in second place nationally with 58.9% approval. Meanwhile, Estefanía Mercado, who presides over the municipality of Solidaridad (Playa del Carmen), ranks tenth with 54.3% approval.

Despite the difference in their positions within the national ranking, the gap in citizen approval between them is 4.6 percentage points. This margin has been interpreted by some media outlets as a technical tie, suggesting that the internal competition for the gubernatorial candidacy will center on these two political figures.

The Mitofsky analysis also identifies other political actors in Quintana Roo who could have aspirations, although they currently hold lower positions. Among them are Mary Hernández, Yensunni Martínez, and José Luis Chacón. Additionally, Senator Eugenio Segura, Customs Director Rafael Marín, and federal deputy Marybel Villegas are mentioned as other possible participants in the contest, although they do not hold municipal offices.

While the validity and discussion of the approval numbers are aspects to consider, the poll underscores the consolidation of Ana Paty Peralta and Estefanía Mercado as the figures with the greatest national momentum heading toward the 2027 election in Quintana Roo. The race for the governorship has begun, and these two mayors are emerging as the main protagonists.
