Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Police arrested a suspected hitwoman in Playa del Carmen on Saturday, seizing a 9mm pistol that authorities say is linked to at least three recent homicides in the state.
The Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office identified the suspect as Elvia Marisol “N.” Investigative police officers detained her on CTM Avenue in the El Edén neighborhood during coordinated intelligence operations targeting drug dealing and illegal weapons possession.
During a preventive inspection, officers seized multiple doses of a plant-based substance resembling marijuana. They also found a short-barreled 9mm firearm with a loaded magazine containing live rounds, which they immediately secured.
Authorities said preliminary forensic analysis indicates the confiscated weapon is connected to three homicides: one in Cancún and two in Playa del Carmen. One of the Playa del Carmen cases occurred on March 12 in the La Guadalupana subdivision, where a woman was killed in an attack that drew widespread attention on social media.
Investigators are using forensic intelligence tools and comparative ballistics studies to cross-reference information, establishing possible matches between the seized weapon and shell casings recovered from different crime scenes.
After her arrest, the woman and the seized items were handed over to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, which will handle the investigation file. That authority will determine her legal status within statutory deadlines as inquiries continue to confirm her alleged involvement in the incidents.
