Alleged Extortion Leader Arrested in Lázaro Cárdenas, Quintana Roo

Guadalupe Ramón 'N', a suspect arrested in Lázaro Cárdenas, Quintana Roo

Lázaro Cárdenas, Quintana Roo — State authorities arrested a man they describe as a violence generator and suspected criminal leader operating in northern Quintana Roo. State Prosecutor Raciel López Salazar announced the arrest during a Monday morning press conference.

Police arrested Guadalupe Ramón “N,” a 46-year-old Coahuila native, on an extortion warrant related to incidents in the town of Chiquilá. Investigators say the suspect posed as a lawyer, entered a property used as a parking lot and commercial establishment, and used firearms and physical aggression to force a victim to sign promissory notes and a property rights transfer under coercion from a supposed ownership claim.

The arrest follows the suspect’s detention last week alongside another individual identified as Jhonatan “N” on Holbox Island. Authorities consider both men suspected leaders of criminal groups dedicated to controlling illegal activities in the region.

According to the State Prosecutor’s Office, Guadalupe Ramón “N” allegedly served as the organization’s accounting and legal advisor, with additional links to collecting “protection money” and intimidating business owners to take control of their private surveillance systems.

After authorities turned the suspect over to the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Drug Trafficking for crimes caught in the act, and subsequently linked him to the Chiquilá extortion case, a control judge ordered mandatory pretrial detention. The suspect will remain in custody while authorities determine his legal status and potentially integrate additional investigation files related to his activities in Lázaro Cárdenas municipality.
