Antonella Vázquez, president of an environmental protection organization, has expressed concerns over the recent approval of the Urban Development Program (UDP) in Tulum. She fears that the new planning tool could act as a retroactive decree and infringe upon established legal procedures.
Vázquez stressed the need to prioritize environmental considerations in urban planning. She insists that any changes to land use must be backed by a solid rationale.
She also raised concerns about construction permits that are contingent on environmental impact authorizations, which she believes are not legally supported.
