Holbox, Quintana Roo — For the first time in its history, the island of Holbox will have a fire station, police facilities, civil protection services, and adequate installations for the implementation of civic justice, Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa announced during a visit to the island.
Accompanied by the municipal president, Nivardo Mena Villanueva, Governor Lezama explained that Holbox is a unique place, full of beauty and with constant growth, with almost 2,000 inhabitants and thousands of visitors who arrive each year.
"I know what this means for you, to have the certainty that, in the event of an emergency, help will be available immediately, that there will be specialized personnel and equipment, day and night, ready to respond quickly and protect what is most valuable to us, which is human life," the Governor said to the residents.
A Response to Island Needs
The Governor affirmed that although Holbox is a paradise, its condition as an island demands special attention. She recalled a past fire that put families and businesses at risk, where the residents themselves had to respond first. She stated that this will change from now on.
With an investment of more than 16.5 million pesos from the Trust for the Strengthening of Security in the State, as well as state and municipal contributions, this integral base will be constructed.
Facility Specifications and Investment
The first stage of the project will be a 556-square-meter construction. It will include a reception area, an emergency changing room, bathrooms and showers, a storage room, a parking lot with a maneuvering area, two cisterns of 20,000 liters each, cells for women and men, a juvenile detention area, a mediation room, another for oral trials, and all the necessary spaces for firefighters, police, and civil protection to carry out their work efficiently.
Mara Lezama assured that this base means that security, protection, and justice will arrive at the moment they are most needed.
"Today, in Holbox, together we take an important step towards a safer future for families and for those who choose this paradisiacal island as a destination. In Quintana Roo, the transformation moves forward!" emphasized Mara Lezama.
